In this tutorial we are going to show how to clear the Joomla 1.7 cache.

A common query raised on our forum is that when changes are made in the Joomla admin side, they do not update in site preview.

This is because Joomla stores a snapshot of the page in its cache if the cache is enabled - the cache enables Joomla to load the page quicker the next time a visitor accesses that page.

Global Configuration

Navigate to the site tab, select maintenance and click clear cache.

Use an extension

There are extensions available to automate clearing the cache – a popular free extension used is the NoNumber Cache Cleaner.

Cache Cleaner offers the ability to

  • Empty the cache folder
  • Purge expired cache
  • CMSLib Cache
  • JRE Cache
  • Empty tmp folder
  • Any folders you define

To set up the cache cleaner - Navigate to extension manager, click plugin manager and select System - Cache Cleaner

Once the plugin is published and configured click the Clean Cache icon in the top right of the screen

Click Clean Cache interface button
